It's maybe a 1.5 foot long section of 1" rope with a big knot tied at the end. Anchored to a D ring in center of each thwart. One per person. Doesn't seem like it could entangle any body parts. Late October. I’ve done it many times. But my son in law is new to it. He is telling me that he wants to make the trip in fishing chest waders, rain jacket and Type V PFD. I am concerned that the chest waders are a death trap if he takes a swim at Blossom Bar etc. Another young man joining us, extremely good fishing partner, insists this is okay and will do same. I am whitewater rescue certified and have taken some gnarly swims in both neoprene and my dry suit. I was never more terrified than when I slipped in the Deschutes and my chest waders filled even with the belt. My question is, do I insist on No Waders - swim in your skivvies for all I care, but I will not take you if you insist on wearing chest waders (even with a top rated vest)? I’m not “trip leader” - just the grumpy old man. Do I just shut up?
